No issue has divided our Nation more than abortion. My Mother had me at the age of 17, and raised me as a single-parent on her low income. Many people pushed my Mother to have an abortion. She made the right decision. Interestingly, I was pro-choice until I became a Christian at the age of 20. My Mother raised an only-child whom earned a college degree, worked for two of the largest financial services companies, and now has his own business. I am very proud of her. I am an advocate for life and the rights of the unborn, and I will do everything in my power to protect them.
My Congressman, the Honorable Dennis Kucinich, however, does not share my view. He has changed his view on abortion numerous times, and voted against Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003.
Vouchers for adoption has been an on-going campaign for me, and it should be seriously considered. I do not have the answer for it at this time, but I like the notion. One of my best friends was adopted, and he’s still “kickin” (as he says) at the age of 90. He says he has had an incredible life and would live his life the same if he had the chance. Adoption is key in our society because it will give more opportunity to children. And not only will it give more opportunity to children, but it will give more opportunity to parents who want to adopt, but may have been having difficulty in the adoption process, which is typically a litany, costly process. Let’s knock down bureaucratic walls. I will keep you posted on our campaign for adoption.
Faith is something that changed my heart. I strongly support openness for any person to worship freely – privately and publicly – so long as it is done decently and in order. Freedom has been given to us all by God, so we ought to adhere to His gift. It’s nice that America is such a free nation that we are even lawfully allowed to worship freely while citizens of many other countries oftentimes get beaten for their faith.
Also regarding “faith,” I did not quite understand the President’s faith-based initiative when it was first introduced into Congress and passed into law because I did not read it. Basically, the bill says that institutions and/or organizations of faith can propose and compete for government funding just like any other institution or organization. With that being the case, I support it. Candidly, every business, every organization, and every person has an agenda, has a belief, and has faith in something. All organizations and individuals have a reason for what they do. Faith-based organizations such as churches, synagogues, and mosques just happen to work through their groups of supporters and/or followers. I see no reason why they should not be permitted to compete for federal funds like other organizations, so long as they show results.
We need an amendment to the Constitution that will affirm marriage as what it is: man and woman in holy matrimony. God will honor our support of this amendment.
Family values are imperative in our society. We must strive to protect families and what makes them so strong. As an only-child raised without a father, I know first-hand the struggles a one-parent family faces. I am now involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) as a big brother to a young man. BBBS is an organization that matches a younger child – typically from a struggling family – with a “Big” brother to act as a mentor. We do things that he may not normally get a chance to do: go to amusement parks, museums, sporting events, and other fun activities. I encourage organizations like this to strengthen our society rather than giving away money from the federal government. Government can put money in your hand, but government cannot put hope in your heart. Please join me to help our Nation rely less on government and more on loving citizens, communities, and organizations that can put hope in your heart.
